Principal's Letter

Dear Prospective ATLAS Families,

As your child prepares to enter high school, you may still be considering which school best meets your family's needs. I want to share a bit about myself and our school community to help you decide if ATLAS High School is the right fit for your child.

As a parent of a teenager myself, I deeply value how students are treated and supported at school. I know you want your child to enjoy going to school every day, have their individual needs met, and be recognized for the unique person they are.

Several years ago, our students led an effort to integrate and rename our school from Newcomers High School to ATLAS. Since then, we have expanded our course offerings across three strong career tracks and fostered a diverse community that reflects the vibrant population of our borough and city.

At ATLAS High School, we offer three career-oriented pathways:

  • Technology
  • Law

Students in our Arts track explore both traditional and digital media through courses such as photography, digital animation, AP Studio Art, podcasting, and video production. We feature a full-sized auditorium, a robust music program, and supplemental enrichment in dance, theater, and capoeira. We also offer career-aligned experiences in cosmetology, fashion, film production, and culinary arts.

Our Arts students have been accepted to prestigious institutions like Pratt Institute, and through our residency partnership with MoMA, ATLAS students regularly have their artwork displayed in renowned institutions, including MoMA and The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

In our Technology program—now in its third year as an official NYC Public School Future Ready Technology program—students pursue software programming, earn industry-recognized credentials, gain paid work experience, and access Early College Credentials.

Our Legal Studies track, modeled after the Justice Resource Center of NYC, is our newest offering. It features a converted, dedicated mock courtroom and a growing partnership with nearby CUNY School of Law.

At ATLAS, we pride ourselves on creating a warm, inclusive, and welcoming environment. We ensure all students—including multilingual learners and students with IEPs—have full access to early college courses and pathway opportunities.
